Nurse Aide Training Program

Requirements for Registration

  • Reading at 9th grade level
  • Math skills at 6th grade level
  • Covid Vaccine documentation
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray 
  • Criminal background check
  • 100% attendance is mandatory
  • Timely completion of every assignment is mandatory
  • Minimum score of 75% on all homework and tests
Physical Skills
​
This program teaches care-provider physical skills including: handwashing, shampooing, shaving, feeding, bedbath, perineal care, catheter care, dressing, bed making, wheelchair transfers, using walkers and canes, skin care, assisting with elimination, oral care, foot care, hand & nail care, etc.​

Academic Content

Ideal for students whose jobs require them to pass the state CNA exam.
​

This program teaches care-provider physical skills, plus the academic content tested on the state CNA certification exam.

Academic content includes body systems, infection prevention, age related changes, disease processes, emergency response, medical terminology, nutrition, etc.

​There are 3 tests, 2 homework assignments, 5 worksheets and a resume due.
​

Nurse Aide Program Details


​
​Upon successful completion of the course, a student is eligible to take the state certification exam. Tuition and testing fees are reimbursable from the State of Michigan if a student obtains employment as a nurse aide in a nursing home within 12 months of completing the training program. If an individual's income qualifies, he/she may be eligible for tuition assistance.

More Program Information

A CNA is a state certified worker who is eligible to work in a variety of settings including:
​skilled care facilities (nursing homes), assisted living, home health care and hospitals (PCA).


Our licensed nurse aide training program is an 81 hour course meeting all the requirements of the State of Michigan Nurse Aide Training. The class is a combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical training. The course content of state curricula includes long-term care facilities, physical and emotional needs of residents, resident rights, communication skills, death and dying, special needs of residents, vital signs, infection control principles and isolation techniques, observation, medical terminology, body mechanics, transfers, walkers, canes, positioning in bed, nutrition, intake and output, elimination needs, skin care, foot care, dressing, bathing, bed making, oral care, and first aid.

The course includes a segment on resume review and job skills.
